Click above for the inspiring Stanford commencement speech from Steve Jobs. Seriously good stuff. I understand what he’s saying and I totally agree with what he’s saying … but for some annoying reason I can’t actually live by what he’s saying — something I’ve been struggling with for years. What does it take, short of almost dying, to push us into that frame of existence?

This is why some of us want to work with people who are dying. For the first time in their lives, they see through the bullshit.

Excellent speech. I’m lucky because my wife works as a Hospice nurse and that “frame of existence” is one we share daily. And the way we look at life is, if you were lucky enough to have someone tell you with certainty that you only had a month to live, what would you spend your now highly valuable time doing? Well, you don’t know how long you’re going to live. You may not make it to the end of this week. So why not live your life as if you only had a week to live… because that may indeed be all you have….
