Later this week an exhibit honoring The Man will come to Tokyo. Joe Strummer: Past, Present & Future, which just opened in London, is showing in Shibuya for about a month. Seems like it’s going to have some killer shit, as noted in a Japan Times article (second half of the piece):

McHarg is quick to point out that the exhibit is more literary than visual. “There’s not a lot of stuff that hangs on the wall,” he says. There is, however, a lot of reading material, including journal entries, handwritten lyrics and poetry, and letters &#8212 “even fan mail from Japan.”

It’s partly sponsored by the Joe Strummer Foundation For New Music, which I hadn’t really heard about before seeing the fliers for this exhibit. As far as I can tell (I don’t read Japanese), it’s at a gallery owned by a big-ass Tokyo department store. Should be fun &#8212 definitely will beat sitting around stressing about everything.

So just as I was starting to kinda pull myself out from the depths of my evil head and get in the mood to start posting again … and I find a giant tower of free wi-fi … sadness strikes the iBook.

The bad news: I wake up one morning, turn on my little guy, and nothing happens except the fan comes on very loudly. Doesn’t even begin to boot. I call Apple, and after we try some things the tech declares “hardware failure” and instructs me to take it to my local Apple dealer. Someone at the Genius Bar looks at it, agrees with the phone guy, and says it’s probably my logic board failing. It’s not the infamous logic board failure, but it’s a logic board failure.

The good news: I got me some Apple Protection Plan, so all repairs will be free. Thankfully, they don’t have to ship the laptop to Texas or wherever it is Apple sends stuff to be repaired &#8212 they’ll fix it in Tokyo and I can pick it up in about five days.

More bad news: I’m one of those people who rarely (and when I say “rarely” I mean “never”) backs up his computer, so I asked the Apple guys to do it if they have to reinstall everything. However, hard drive backups are not guaranteed, which means they don’t fall under the APP … which means I get to shell out $200 for them to do something I should do every month.

More good news: I just had amazing-ass Indian food at Samrat and my belly is full of their beautiful nan. Completely unrelated to computer issues (except for me coming to the HMV Internet cafe after my dinner), but worth mentioning. If only I wouldn’t get arrested I would make sweet love to their nan.

More photos of Japan Christmas fun will come once the laptop returns to my open arms. I saw a woman walking an English bulldog fully outfitted in Santa gear yesterday. Didn’t have my camera for that one, but the highness never ends here.
