When you’re coming down off a few days of the blahs, few things beat walking into Yoyogi park on a Sunday and running into a Chihuahua pushing a skateboard down the street. Cute dogs rule this country — people even rent them just to get an hour’s worth of kawaii. On my way to lunch today I ran into Bob, a very happy Chihuahua with a natural bandit mask who was hanging out in a little cage outside his master’s workplace. Bob loves ass scratches (who doesn’t?) and nibbling on fingers. I considered not eating so I could get more Bob time. I think dogs should take their rightful place as rulers of a country.
When you’re coming down off a heightened feeling of puppy love, few things ruin your mood more than reading that if you go back to your home country you face being spied on by a bunch of “patriotic” truckers trying to determine if you’re suspicious. And be careful when you e-mail your friends to complain about America’s new citizen-cops — a federal court has decided that your e-mails are not protected by any sort of privacy laws and can be read and copied by whatever company offers you e-mail service.
