I know I’m behind everybody, but I finally got the new book by our favorite punk rock curmudgeon the other day. I haven’t had a chance to read it yet — it definitely will be part of the 14-hour plane ride lineup if I don’t devour it before the big trip.
But I already can say that any style/reference book that quotes the Meat Puppets should be a staple of every news desk in America. (And now I have images of Bill cold chillin’ with Missy “Misdemeanor” Elliott.)

The Missy Elliott quote was a desperation move; I couldn’t think of anything really good for that chapter.
With the Puppets, I can at least claim a tiny bit of history. I saw them, fronted by a green-haired Curt Kirkwood, open for Black Flag at the Stumble Inn in Tucson, circa 1983.
I’m still kicking myself for not using a line from the Smiths’ “Cemetry Gates” to open the plagiarism chapter.

That kicks so much ass.
I feel very lucky that I got to see Black Flag (2.14.86 in Tulsa) before they disbanded, but I would have killed to see them with the Puppets in 1983!
If you saw the Minutemen, too, you’re my hero.
